The Special Support Group (SSG1) is responsible for restoring order in disturbed areas. It also provides public order training in order to ensure availability of mobile police officers for deployment.
The Unit performs the following specific functions:
a) Provide rapid response in disturbed areas in order to restore order;
b) Conduct security patrols in disturbed areas and borders;
c) Provide training in public order maintenance;
d) Conduct guard duties and escort security services;
e) Collaborate with stakeholders on development of curricula on public order maintenance; and
f) Provide logistical and administrative support in order to enhance the Unit operations.
The Unit is headed by a Commanding Officer (Deputy Commissioner of Police) who is assisted by one (1) Deputy Commanding Officer (Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police), one (1) Senior Human Resource Officer (Senior Superintendent), one (1) Chief Operations Officer (Assistant Commissioner of Police), one (1) Chief Training Officer (Senior Superintendent), one (1) Chief Intelligence Officer (Senior Superintendent) and one (1) Research and Planning Officer (Assistant Superintendent).
In the Office of the Commanding Officer, there is a Research and Planning Unit for easy coordination of the research and planning functions of the institution to enhance efficiency.
The Office of the Commanding Officer comprises the following Units:
i. Research and Planning; and
ii. Police Crime Intelligence.
A. Research and Planning Unit
The Unit is responsible for coordinating, formulating and reviewing institutional plans to facilitate effective implementation of programmes and projects.
The Unit performs the following specific functions:
a) Coordinate the development, implementation and review of the institutional plans;
b) Monitor and evaluate the implementation of programmes and projects;
c) Coordinate preparation of annual and other reports; and
d) Coordinate and conduct periodical research in order to generate information for informed decision making.
The Unit is managed by a Research and Planning Officer (Assistant Superintendent).
B. Police Crime Intelligence Unit
The Unit is responsible for providing intelligence support to the Mobile Unit in order to facilitate decision making and execution of operations.
The Unit is headed by a Divisional Crime Intelligence Officer (Assistant Commissioner of Police) and assisted by a Chief Police Intelligence Officer (Senior Superintendent).
The Mobile Unit comprises the following:
i. Administration;
ii. Training; and
iii. Operations.
The Section is responsible for managing and coordinating human resource management and administrative support functions in order to enhance smooth operations at the Unit.
The Section is headed by Senior Human Resource Management Officer (Senior Superintendent) who is assisted by one (1) Human Resource Management Officer (Superintendent), one (1) Chief Armourer (Superintendent), one (1) Principal Stores Officer (Assistant Superintendent), one (1) Officer in Charge-Engineering and Mechanical Services (Senior Superintendent), one (1) Information and Communications Officer (Superintendent), one (1) Principal Gender Officer (Assistant Superintendent), one (1) Mess Manager (Chief Inspector), one (1) Chaplain (Chief Inspector) and one (1) Officer-in-Charge-Production Unit (Inspector).

A. Human Resource Management Unit
The Unit is responsible for managing human resources in order to enhance smooth operations of the School.
The Unit has the following specific functions:
a) Process human resource matters such as confirmation, placement, promotions, transfers and separations;
b) Maintain staff discipline and coordinate grievance handling in order to uphold professionalism;
c) Process payroll inputs in order to facilitate payment of salaries and other allowances;
d) Coordinate the implementation of performance management systems in order to monitor and evaluate performance;
e) Interpret and disseminate Terms and Conditions of Service and Police Service Code of Ethics in order to maintain consistency in their application;
f) Manage records in order to facilitate easy storage and retrieval of information;
g) Manage staff welfare in order to ensure their wellbeing; and
h) Develop and implement staff wellness programmes.
The Unit is headed by a Human Resource Management Officer (Superintendent) and assisted by one (1) Assistant Human Resource Management Officer (Assistant Superintendent) and two (2) Records Officers (Inspector).
B. Projects and Maintenance Unit
The Unit is responsible for maintenance of Unit infrastructure and other equipment in order to prolong their lifespan and ensure that they are in good working conditions. It also coordinates and supervises infrastructure projects for the Unit.
The Unit is headed by a Supervisor – Projects and Maintenance (Assistant Superintendent) and assisted by one (1) Camp Commandant (Chief Inspector).
C. Quarter Master
The Unit is responsible for procurement of works, goods and services in order to ensure attainment of value for money and smooth operations of the Service. The Unit is also responsible for the storage and distribution of goods and rations.
The Unit is headed by a Senior Purchasing and Supplies Officer (Superintendent) who is assisted by one (1) Purchasing and Supplies Officer (Assistant Superintendent).
D. Armoury
The Unit is responsible for management of firearms and musketry in order to ensure safety, marksmanship and support Mobile Unit operations.
The Unit is headed by a Chief Armourer (Superintendent) and assisted by one (1) Principal Armourer (Assistant Superintendent) and one (1) Range Master (Assistant Superintendent).
E. Information Technology and Communications Unit
The Unit is responsible for provision and management of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for the School. The Unit is also responsible for utilizing ICT technologies in order to contribute to achievement of the School’ strategic goals.
The Unit is headed by Officer-In-Charge – Information and Communications (Superintendent) and assisted by one (1) Information and Communications Officer (Assistant Superintendent).
F. Engineering and Mechanical Services
The Unit is responsible for the maintenance of plant, mechanical equipment and motor vehicles in order to prolong their serviceability and life span.
The Unit is headed by Officer-In-Charge – Engineering and Mechanical Services (Superintendent) and assisted by one (1) Deputy Officer in Charge (Assistant Superintendent).
G. Mess and Canteens
The Unit is responsible for providing catering, nutritional and dietary support services in order to enhance the wellbeing of officers and trainees.
The Unit is headed by a Manager – Mess and Canteen (Assistant Superintendent) and assisted by one (1) Assistant Mess Manager (Chief Inspector) and two (2) Catering Officers (Chief Inspector).
H. Gender Unit
The Gender Unit is responsible for coordinating the implementation of Gender mainstreaming programmes in order to promote Gender awareness and ensure equity under Paramilitary Battalion.
The Unit is headed by a Gender Officer (Assistant Superintendent) and assisted by one (1) Assistant Gender Officer (Chief inspector).
I. Transport and Logistics Unit
The Unit is responsible for transport management in order to enhance smooth operations of Paramilitary Battalion Headquarters.
The Unit is headed by a Transport Officer (Assistant Superintendent) who is assisted by a one (1) Assistant Transport Officer (Chief Inspector).
J. Chaplaincy Unit
The Unit is responsible for upholding spiritual and moral values at the Battalion.
The Unit performs the following specific functions:
a) Provide chapel ministry to the Battalion;
b) Provide counseling services to staff and their families;
c) Conduct funeral rites during bereavements; and
d) Provide pastoral care services to staff and their families.
The Unit is headed by a Chaplain (Assistant Superintendent) and assisted by one (1) Assistant Chaplain (Chief Inspector).

L. Chavuma Clinic
This Unit is responsible for conducting patient intake, administering care and medications, communicating with patients and care givers, compiling and submission of reports, providing diagnostic, therapeutic or preventive out-patient services, care and maintenance of clinic equipment.
The Unit is headed by Health Centre In-charge (Assistant Superintendent) who is assisted by one (1) Senior Clinical Officer (Chief Inspector).
The Section is responsible for providing police training and staff development in order to impart knowledge and skills and enhance the performance of the Zambia Police Service.
The Section is headed by a Senior Training Officer (Senior Superintendent) who is assisted by one (1) Head – Law and Police Duties (Superintendent), one (1) Head – Criminal Investigations (Superintendent), one (1) Head – Drill and Weapon Training (Superintendent), one (1) Head – Humanities and Police Sciences (Superintendent), one (1) Head – Physical and Sports (Superintendent), one (1) Head – Police Intelligence (Superintendent) and one (1) Librarian (Assistant Superintendent).
The Section has seven (7) departments each of which is headed by a Superintendent and one (1) unit as shown below:
