The Section is responsible for investigations of suspicious death and homicide in order to determine probable cause of death.
The Section performs the following specific functions:
a) Conduct forensic pathology investigations for the collection of physical evidence in order to facilitate arrest and prosecution of offenders;
b) Perform autopsies in order to determine the presence or absence of disease, injury or poisoning;
c) Manage the operations of the forensic pathology in order to facilitate the provision of credible justice in the criminal proceedings;
d) Manage accurately the conduct of pathological investigations in order to facilitate the identification of perpetrators and their instruments;
e) Manage accurately the examination of the tissues and cells of biological samples in order to determine causation and criminal liability and;
f) Undertake accurately preparation and disposal of biological samples in order to facilitate pathological investigations.
The Pathology Section is headed by a State Pathologist (N) and assisted by three (3) State Pathologists (N).
