The Peace Support Operations Office shall be responsible for planning, facilitating, processing and coordinating all peacekeeping matters in the Zambia police Service (ZPS).
The Office performs the following specific functions:
a) Coordinate the identification of Police Officers to undergo peacekeeping training;
b) Coordinate travel arrangements and liaise with Ministry of Foreign Affairs for granting of Visas;
c) Conduct pre-deployment briefings and post peacekeeping mission debriefing for officers going for peacekeeping and those coming back;
d) Facilitate selection of Police Officers to serve in the United Nations/African Union missions;
e) Coordinate pre-deployment training;
f) Produce status report on United Nations/African Union peacekeeping matters;
g) Coordinate and liaise with the Department of Peace Keeping Operations (DPKO) and Field missions; and
h) Develop and maintain a database on peacekeeping missions.
The Unit is headed by a Director – Peace Support Operations (Deputy Commissioner of Police) and assisted by one (1) Deputy Director (Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police).
