The Deputy Inspector General of Police – Administration

The Office of the Deputy Inspector General of Police – Administration is responsible for managing, directing and coordinating human resource and administrative support functions in the Zambia Police Service (ZPS). The Office is also responsible for managing medical services, training, research and planning, Information Technology (IT) and Engineering, Firearms, Armory, and agricultural functions.

 

The Office performs the following specific functions:

 

a) Manages human resources and staff development functions;

 

b) Provides police training in order to ensure availability of police officers and build capacity;

 

c) Coordinates gender mainstreaming within the Service;

 

d) Manages information and communication services in order to enhance operational efficiency;

 

e) Provides Mechanical Engineering services;

 

f) Manages Research and Planning functions;

 

g) Provides Firearms and Armory management services;

 

h) Records management;

 

i) Provides Quarter master services;

 

j) Manages projects and maintenance services;

 

k) Manages Police farms;

 

l) Provides medical services to members of staff and surrounding communities; and

 

m) Provides logistical and administrative support in order to enhance operations.

The Office of the Deputy Inspector General of Police – Administration is comprised of the following four (4) Directorates and one (1) College, outlined under their respective tabs below, which you may click on to read more:

The Administration Directorate

The Administration Directorate is responsible for managing and developing human resource in order to enhance the performance of the Zambia Police Service (ZPS). It also provides training and administrative and logistical support in order to facilitate effective operations of the Service. Further, it is responsible for procurement and supplies, transport logistics, records management and sports administration. The Administration Directorate is responsible for managing the Central Firearms Registry, Armory, and the Zambia Police Farms. It coordinates gender related programmes in order to promote gender parity.

The Research and Planning Directorate

The Research and Planning Directorate is responsible for coordinating, formulating and reviewing Police Service policies and legislation in order to provide a framework for effective implementation of programmes and projects. The Directorate is also responsible for monitoring and evaluating the implementation of programmes by all the Divisions and Directorates in order to ensure realisation of the objectives of the Service. Further, the Directorate is responsible for undertaking research and planning, provide appropriate and up-to-date information for effective decision-making and for the enhancement of efficiency and effectiveness in the operations of the Zambia Police Service.
