The Divisional Office – Province

The Division is responsible for protecting life and property, and maintaining law and order in the province in order to contribute to socio-economic development.

 

The Division performs the following specific functions:

 

a) Maintain Law and Order in order to ensure preservation of peace;

 

b) Detect and investigate crime and arrest suspects in order to facilitate prosecution and ensure promotion of justice;

 

c) Manage information and communication services in order to enhance operational efficiency;

 

d) Protect and uphold the rights of citizens in line with the Bill of Rights;

 

e) Collaborate with stakeholders on crime prevention and maintenance of law and order; and

 

f) Provide logistical, financial and administrative support in order to enhance operations.

 

The Division is headed by a Divisional Commander (Commissioner of Police) who is assisted by one (1) Deputy Divisional Commander (Deputy Commissioner of Police), one (1) Divisional Criminal Investigations Officer (Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police), one (1) Divisional Crime Intelligence Officer (Assistant Commissioner of Police), one (1) Divisional Legal Officer (Assistant Commissioner of Police), one (1) Divisional Senior Human Resource Officer (Assistant Commissioner of Police), one (1) Divisional Finance Officer (Superintendent) and one (1) Divisional Research and Planning Officer (Superintendent), one (1) Divisional Operations Officer (Assistant Commissioner of Police), one (1) Divisional Traffic Officer (Assistant Commissioner of Police), one (1) Divisional Community Services Officer (Senior Superintendent), one (1), one (1) Divisional Finance Officer (Superintendent), one (1) Media Liaison Officer (Assistant Superintendent), one (1) Officer Commanding (Assistant Commissioner of Police) for District A and Officer Commanding (Senior Superintendent) for District B.

 

In the Office of the Divisional Commander (Commissioner of Police), there is three (3) Sections and one (1) Unit, for easy coordination of the planning and legal functions of the Division to enhance efficiency, namely:

 

i. Legal,

 

ii. Research and Planning, and

 

iii. Crime Intelligence and

 

iv. Public Relations.

 

Under the Office of the Divisional Commander, there is also be a Research and Planning Unit for easy coordination of the research and planning functions of the division to enhance efficiency.

 

A. Legal Section

 

The Section is responsible for providing legal services to Command and represent the Division in legal matters.

 

The Section performs the following specific functions:

 

(i) Provide legal advice to the Divisional Commander;

 

(ii) Advise investigations officers on appropriateness of the charge or offence the suspect is charged with, the admissibility or inadmissibility of evidence collected; and

 

(iii) Liaise with the NPA on prosecution matters.

 

The Section is headed by a Divisional Legal Officer (Assistant Commissioner of Police) who is assisted by one (1) Deputy Divisional Legal Officer (Senior Superintendent) and one (1) Senior Professional Standards Officer (Senior Superintendent).

 

B. Research and Planning Section

 

The Section is responsible for coordinating, formulating and reviewing institutional plans to facilitate effective implementation of programmes and projects.

 

The Section performs the following specific functions:

 

(i) Coordinate the development, implementation and review of the institutional plans;

 

(ii) Monitor and evaluate the implementation of programmes and projects;

 

(iii) Coordinate preparation of Annual and other reports; and

 

(iv) Coordinate and conduct periodical research in order to generate information for informed decision making.

 

The Section is managed by a Divisional Research and Planning Officer (Superintendent).

 

C. Crime Intelligence Section

 

The section is responsible for providing intelligence support services in order to enhance police operations and facilitate decision making.

 

The Section performs the following specific functions:

 

(i) Collect, correlate and analyse intelligence information from various sources;

 

(ii) Conduct regular threat assessment reviews and make appropriate recommendations;

 

(iii) Advise relevant authorities on the protection of key and vital installations based on the assessed threat; and

 

(iv) Collaborate with other law enforcement agencies.

 

The Section is headed by a Divisional Crime Intelligence Officer (Assistant Commissioner of Police) who is assisted by one (1) Deputy Divisional Crime Intelligence Officer (Senior Superintendent).

 

D. Public Relations Unit

 

The Public Relations Unit is responsible for maintaining effective communication between the Divisional Command and the public in order to ensure correct and efficient information dissemination.

 

The Unit is managed by a Media Liaison Officer (Assistant Superintendent).

 

The Division comprises five (5) Sections, one (1) Unit and Police District Office as follows:

 

i. Criminal Investigations Section;

 

ii. Human Resource and Administration Section;

 

iii. Crime Prevention and Special Support Services Section;

 

iv. Road Traffic Management Section;

 

v. Community Services Section;

 

vi. Finance Unit; and

 

vii. Police District Office.
